chickens

I feel like such a redneck for blogging this...but hey...it's our life so I'm not ashamed...it's fun.
We collect scrap food from the week and feed it to the chickens...they love it! They are not so sure of Toby though...he is trying to feed them a chip out of his hand.
He was quite disappointed that they did not take his bait!
These are my favorite birds we have right now...The ones with the white heads are Egyptian and the speckled ones are Speckled Sussex.
Ummm...tomorrow I turn 34. I'm proud of it. I'm so enjoying my fun adventurous life.

we have chickens...

This is an incubator that we borrowed from a good friend...it holds over 100 eggs.
This past weekend they started hatching.
This was the size of the smallest chicks. They were tiny!
I think they are BB Reds and Yellow Duck Wings...guess we will see!
We have to keep them inside for a few weeks on a heat lamp before moving them outside in the bigger cage with the heat lamp. My boys love to watch the baby chickens.

I'm excited!

Look what we get to look for each day! It has been about 6 months since we were able to do this. We are all excited! Gage brought me 2 eggs and I asked him if I could take his picture. He said "no Mama, I want to take your picture now look excited!" So I agreed to his request.
In the background you can see that I STILL have my Christmas cards up on my cabinets..I just can seem to part with them b/c I enjoy looking at them so much!
Ooooo and today starts Spring Break...we have lots planned...Enid, GG's visit, YaYa & Mac, Pump It Up Birthdays for Gage and Toby, ChickFilA Bday supper with Meme and Papa, and NOTHING after that...we are gonna just chill on the ole farm!

Marans Eggs

Check out these eggs we got from Soso (yes that's the name of the town). They are the darkest brown eggs with speckles that I've ever seen in person...very cool! They are Marans eggs. They will be black and white speckled chickens much like Barred Rock. Well, I hope that we have a good hatch rate. I guess we will see in 21 days...I'll keep you posted!
